Although Halloween is months away horror and gore anime fans do not care. We watch it all the time and enjoy it. There are many theories out there that explain why people love horror and gore pictures. One of these theories suggests that our body experiences heightened senses during frightening moments. Thus, instead of focusing on the fright experienced by watching an anime, your body and mind recall experience a sensation that gets the juices flowing and the heart racing. Here are the top 10 characters that you need to avoid during a dark, cold, scary night.

10. Diana and Elaine Reed (Genocyber)

What do you have when you combine a robotized body with a wild child, with an animal’s nervous system. You get the key to extinguishing the human race. Diana and Elaine kill anyone on sight even if they are innocent children. Nothing can kill this monster, not even a full blown nuclear war aimed at wiping her out.

 9. Shiro (Deadman Wonderland)

What’s frightening and makes this character scary is her split personality. Shiro became the test subject of Hagire Rinichirō and Sorae Igarashi. These horrible experiments created the first Deadman along with her second personality, the Wretched Egg, to cope with her pain. As a result, you don’t know who you’re going to meet, the bubbly energetic girl who loves sweets or the sadistic and vicious redman.

8. Ai Enma (Hell Girl)

No matter what you do, you are doomed if you cross Ai Enma, or as she’s better known, Hell Girl. Although physically Ai isn’t fear-provoking – a beautiful young girl, albeit with a cold personality – her otherworldly powers will sure do. When a client seeks vengeance, they must pull the red string tied around a straw doll. After doing so, Ai will take the person who the client has chosen immediately to hell. But, by pulling the red string, the client agrees that they will also be sent to hell. We all get angry and act on our emotion. However, after some time, we do feel remorse about our action. In the case of Hell Girl, you can’t go back. Talk about making a deal with the devil.

7. Kyubey (Madoka Magica)

Little girls beware of this little “plush toy”. It is not to be messed with. Kyubey appears as the “Messenger of Magic” who would grant wishes to girls. But, in reality, it’s an advanced alien species send to collect emotional energy. Kyubey’s end goal is to make as many Magical Girls die. Granted, that the plan is not that, what sets Kyubey apart from other villains is that it lacks empathy or any other emotion. Thus, only seeing humans as energy producers. On top of that, it feels that plotting someone’ s death is not that bad, only a “necessary evil”.  “Whenever I tell you humans the simple facts you always react the same way. It makes no sense at all. Why are humans so sensitive about the kind of container their souls are housed in.”

6. Monokuma (Danganronpa)

Similar as Kyubey, Monokuma is a cute teddy bear with a sadistic personality. Not only is he sadistic, he also suffers from split personality; left and black. On one side he acts sweet and innocent and on the other hand he will do anything for the sake of despair. He has eyes and controls almost every room at Hope’s Peak Academy, making it impossible to make an escape plan. Imagine your favorite teddy bear trying to kill you.

5. GYO fish (GYO)

If you are afraid of the water, too bad, you are not safe on land either. A horde of fish with metal legs invade the coast of Japan, carrying a disgusting odor known as the “death stench.” No problem, just stay inside. Wrong! Not only do the fishes invade the country, but also giant great white sharks. So imagine a giant white shark chasing after you, but crawling on land is not the worst of it. When one of the metal legs breaks the skin, the human body will swell up and be covered with boils.

4. Gotou (Parasyte the maxim)

If you’ve seen Parasyte The Maxim, you know how Shinichi was scared out of his pants when Gotou was chasing after him. Who wouldn’t be, he shows no remorse in combat and dismembers his opponents without a second thought.  He has perfect hunting skills he patiently waits for the opportune moment to attack his victims. On top of that his intelligence, speed, and defensive capabilities make him a potent adversary.

When Sachiko was alive, she was a shy and reclusive little girl, but after the death of her mother, she became a sadistic, vengeful spirit. 1. Urado (Ghost Hunt)

Urado was one of the primary and scariest characters of Ghost Hunt. In life, Urado was obsessed with prolonging his life, accordingly, he got inspired by the heinous crimes of Vlad the Impaler and Elizabeth Bathory. With the help of his servants, he began killing people and bathing in their blood. After his death, his spirit continued murdering young people to extend his life. The detectives were unable to close this, leaving the story unresolved and making him one of the scariest characters on this list.
