As star-studded as the year has been, sometimes it takes a lot more than just star power to make a drama work. And there were quite a few K-dramas that simply didn’t make it this year. Here are a few of the K-dramas of 2016 that you would be better off avoiding.

Uncontrollably Fond

uncontrollably fond k-drama

Also known as Lightly, Ardently, Uncontrollably Fond stars Kim Woo-bin and Suzy Bae, and has been cited by many as the biggest failure of 2016. The major problems this drama had was mainly due to the huge amount of promotion surrounding it before it released, making its drop in popularity even worse. By about halfway through the series, the story hadn’t properly developed, and by then its competitors, Doctor Crush and W had already won a huge following.

Moorim School

Moorim School k-drama

Basically, Moorim School was a wannabe Harry Potter. Apart from the poor acting, the story’s development was a mess. The plot was terribly written and the execution was even worse. You don’t need to watch this one!

Cheese in the Trap

Cheese in the Trap k-drama

Cheese in the Trap is based on a popular webtoon of the same name and actually started out quite well. But then things went downhill so fast that Park Hae-jin admitted that he regretted taking the role. About halfway through the series, there was hardly any Yoo-jung (Hae-jin) on screen and more unnecessary side character stories.

The Entertainer

The Entertainer cannot truly be called a bad drama, but it wasn’t a great one either. With its lack of chemistry among main characters and a downplaying of the romance, it was a slightly adorable show, but not one that you should go out of your way to see either. If you’re looking for a fun and simple watch or you want to indulge in your immense love for Ji-sung, then go ahead.

Remember – War of the Son

Remember – War of the Son is another drama that started out well, but had a heavy drop in popularity as it neared the end. This was mainly due to the lack of development in its story after episode 14 that pulled down the show’s momentum that had steadily grown to that point. It still is an okay watch if you’re willing to give it a chance, but there are much better shows from this year to spend your time on.
