WonderCon: A Look at ‘Lights Out’

The trailer for Lights Out is fantastic. Loaded with shocks and great imagery. Packed with deafening music cues to maximize the effect. It’s a bombastic trailer with much more in the way of horror moments than most trailers, and if they’re keeping a lot of big moments out of the trailer the film could be an unrelenting horror experience. Based on a short film that went mega-viral, this James Wan-produced effort makes for the debut of director David F. Sandberg and it features Maria Bello, Teresa Palmer, and Billy Burke.

It’s a very competently show movie and it gives us all hope because at the WonderCon panel the first-time filmmaker gave us this inspiring comment: “The first time I ever set foot on a film set was as a director.”

The marketing for the film should start up soon and there’s no reason it’s not going to be the next in a long line of horror movies that James Wan turns to gold.
