Our Week in Fandom video series is once again taking the week off, but we promise we will have a ton of great video content coming your way next week for San Diego Comic-Con! In the meantime, we are still here to keep you up to date on the hottest news this week in games, movies, and TV. For the Week in Fandom ending July 15, we revisit last week’s sudden outbreak of Pokémon fever, take a look at who Emmy gave the nod to and who was snubbed, fit a lifetime’s worth of nostalgia in the palm of our hand with the world’s most adorable mini console, do our best Christian Slater impersonations (which are actually just really bad Jack Nicholson impersonations), and celebrate all things Star Wars.

Pokémon Go Takes Over the World

OK, last week we told you Pokémon Go was on its way to being the next big thing on mobile. Boy, was that an understatement. You couldn’t escape Pokémon Go news this week, and the location-based ARG game from Niantic and The Pokémon Company completely took over social media. Even presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump got in on the Pokémon action. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I believe there may be a Cubone nearby that requires my attention.

2016 Emmy Nominees Announced

The Television Academy announced the 2016 Emmy nominees this week. This year’s list of nominees is extremely solid, and we were happy to see some of our favorite shows and actors receive recognition. The list of acting nominations was also the most diverse ever, with non-white actors earning 21 nominations across several categories. Unfortunately, not everyone can get recognized for their work, and there were some conspicuous omissions from the list of nominees, as Fan Contributor Drew Dietsch points out.

Nintendo Announces the NES Classic Edition Mini Console

Nintendo is on a roll this month. While Pokémon Go continues to take the world by storm, they rode the wave of fan goodwill even further and revealed the Mini NES Classic Console, an HD-ready version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The mini console will cost $60 when it goes on sale November 11, and it comes packed with 30 retro NES classic games. Our own Henry Gilbert highlights some of the best games included with the system, while Fan Contributor Ryan Aday laments some of the other NES classics that didn’t make the cut.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Details Revealed at Celebration Europe

Star Wars Celebration Europe is in full swing, and fans knew the event would be the perfect venue for the makers of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to reveal details about this year’s upcoming film. So far, the event has certainly delivered, and during a panel hosted by Captain Phasma herself, Gwendoline Christie, the entire cast was brought out on stage and director Gareth Edwards treated the audience to a reveal of the new poster and introduced a 3-minute behind-the-scenes sizzle reel and a new teaser that only attendees got to see. Our own Nick Nunziata was in attendance, and broke down the contents of the sizzle reel and teaser, including the big reveal of one Darth Vader.

Turning to the weekend and week ahead, we will have lots more Star Wars Celebration news all weekend, plus coverage leading into SDCC next week. In the meantime, get ready for the weekend with our Fandom Weekend Preview.
