Indiana Jones is a character that refuses to stay down. The swashbuckling archeologist has been entertaining audiences for over thirty-five years. Actor Harrison Ford has portrayed the character in all of his big screen adventures. With the announcement that a fifth Indiana Jones film is going to happen, fans are rightfully amazed that Ford would still be playing the character when he’s nearly eighty years old (Ford will turn seventy-seven this year). Who could have seen that coming?

Well, one late night TV host did. Check out this clip of Late Night with Conan O’Brien from way back in the year 2000 (“In the year 2000…”) where O’Brien interviewed Ford and predicted the further adventures of Indiana Jones.

Conan’s being funny here, but he hit the nail on the head. Joking about actors playing characters way into old age is nothing new. There used to be countless jokes at Sylvester Stallone’s expense returning to the Rocky franchise. When he finally did, he made two of the best films in the series, Rocky Balboa and Creed. Not to mention Harrison Ford and his co-stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill returning to Star Wars after being gone for thirty-two years. If the material is good, the age of the actors is irrelevant.

Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020. That’s actually a few days before Harrison Ford’s 78th birthday, but we’re calling that close enough. Good job, Conan, but just a little off.
