Season 3 of Voltron: Legendary Defender is going to be intense – and we’re ready to love every second of it. Just check out the trailer:

The exclusive teaser trailer for the upcoming season has us shaking with excitement. Keith takes charge of the Black Lion, Allura might take charge of the Blue Lion, and the Blade of Marmora returns. But what got the fans screaming was the clips of the past paladins, led by King Alflor and Zarkon, and the moment when Zarkon killed Alfor. It seems like the past will be more crucial than ever this season, and we can’t wait to see the paladins’ history unfold.

Changing of the Guard

At the Voltron panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Prince Lotor introduced the first episode of season 3, called “Changing of the Guard,” to a room of screaming fans. The loss of Shiro and the Black Lion is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, especially Keith’s. It was exhilarating to see him reveal his emotion and frustration over it while the group tries to figure out how to form Voltron now. Fans went crazy – and rightly so – when Lance was the first to approach and comfort Keith. There’s heartfelt unity, but also a sense of uncertainty going forward.

The screening definitely delivered on one of the most anticipated moments for season 3 – the introduction of Prince Lotor, Zarkon’s son, who will be voiced by AJ LoCascio. He is primed to take control of the Galra Empire and has a team of epic female generals to back him up. There’s still so much room to theorize about the shady prince, but he is clearly one step ahead of everyone else, as his generals can turn invisible and spy on others. Lotor is devious, cunning, and while he can deliver one inspiring bad-guy speech to his followers, he is just as quick to turn on them and put them in their place.

What Season 3 Holds For the Team

Season 3 of 'Voltron' will feature Pidge's continuing search for her family

The panel delved a little into all the characters’ storylines. Pidge is still looking for her family, and it seems like there will be more on the mysterious aliens that rescued her brother, Matt, in season 2. Hunk improves his piloting skills and will be “bringing the levity” amid all the darkness in season 3.

Fans asked some epic questions at the mic that yielded some epic trivia. For one, Pidge’s family dog is named Bey-Bey, after a Dreamworks office’ dog. In addition, Lance confirmed he was the youngest of his family but has plenty of nieces and nephews.

OMG, When Can I See It?!

During the panel, some important logistics were introduced. Season 3 will air August 4 but only have seven episodes. They also announced that season 4 is set to air in October, and seasons 1 and 2 is coming to iTunes soon.
