We’re used to seeing Rihanna dressed to the nines.

The pop star turned fashionista (she is hosting the 2018 Met Gala) turned makeup mogul (her Fenty Beauty line was just named Time’s Best Invention of the Year) also starred in this year’s sci-fi stunner, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, out on home entertainment this week.

RiRi plays Bubble, a shapeshifter who aids the title character Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and his partner Laureline (Cara DeLevigne) in their galaxy-spanning quest.

As creative as make-up artists are, there are just some things that can’t be done. Enter CGI. Rihanna donned a decidedly unglamorous grey motion capture suit to bring Bubble to life.

“That was definitely a moment in fashion,” the Barbadian beauty said of her drab grey jumpsuit with motion capture dots. Still, Rihanna managed to don eyeliner and heels.

Check out the behind-the-scenes clip from Valerian above to see Rihanna’s commitment to character.

Sure, she flubs her line a bit, but definitely gets the body language of Bubble right. And she and all the special effects artists should definitely “take a bow” for the finished product.

Bubble is just one of many fantastic aliens in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

The sci-fi stunner heads to 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital HD), Blu-ray Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital HD), and DVD November 21.
