Could A Unikitty and Ninjago Crossover Be a Thing?

At the San Diego Comic-Con press conference for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, producer Dan Lin talked about building a LEGO movie universe.

And while he stressed that The LEGO Ninjago Movie was a standalone film, saying “This is not a sequel, this is its own movie”, cast members were more open to the idea of widening their characters’ reach.

The Big Sick actor Kumail Nunjiani, who voices Jay, the Blue Ninja of Lightning, suggested his character for a role in future LEGO films.

Directing his response to Dan Lin, he joked, “I really think Jay would be good in the next LEGO Movie. Or LEGO Batman 2. I think he would be really good in any of your existing properties. And he’s got some free time I hear.”

But an altogether more enticing prospect is the idea of the Green Ninja and Unikitty teaming up. When asked about whether he’d like to see that crossover, actor Dave Franco – who voices the Green Ninja – replied, “Absolutely”.

Not as strange a proposition as you might think, since Franco is married to GLOW star Alison Brie – who happens to be the actress who voiced Unikitty in The LEGO Movie.

Franco shared this story: “Our friend, his kid is obsessed with LEGO and he found out that [my wife] was Unikitty, and then he found out that I was the Green Ninja, kind of paused, really tried to process what that meant and finally said: ‘So, Unikitty loves Green Ninja?’ It’s the sweetest thing we’ve ever heard, and we say it to each other all the time”.

It’s a crossover we’re not holding our breath for but we’re now totally shipping these characters.
