Once upon a time, Laura Palmer told Special Agent Dale Cooper, “I’ll see you again in 25 years.” And now, that time has finally come. Showtime just made the announcement that the return of Twin Peaks will debut in May. This is the long-awaited follow-up to the story David Lynch and Mark Frost began nearly three decades ago. Twin Peaks season 3 is a reality, and that gum you like is about to come back in style.

We’ve already looked at our first glimpse of the new show and revealed who in the cast is returning. Now we can start the clock for the exact date and time when Twin Peaks will have its world debut. Recently, many reports stated that the series would be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, but official sources including screenwriter Mark Frost quickly debunked those rumors.

When Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me was released in 1992, the world didn’t know what to make of it. Fans of the series were up in arms about the film’s dark and disturbing tone, and movie critics around the globe vilified it. For years David Lynch’s theatrical effort was a black mark on his career, but the prequel to the show has seen its fanbase grow and grow. Alamo Drafthouse theaters will be bringing it back to the big screen for those interested in seeing just exactly what led up to Laura Palmer’s death on the big screen.

Along with the theatrical roadshow, Mondo in conjunction with Death Waltz Records will be releasing the film’s soundtrack on vinyl again. This will be the first time Angelo Badalamenti’s theatrical score will be available as an LP since its last pressing in ’92. The companies rereleased the soundtrack to the television series, and hardcore vinyl collectors, both albums are a must-own. Let’s all celebrate this great news with this clip of David Lynch reprising his role as Deputy Director Gordon Cole eating a donut. It’s good to have him back.
