They play two of the most iconic characters in entertainment, but many fans have never seen their faces. We’re talking about Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the voices behind Transformers Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.

Cullen and Walker have been voicing the Autobot and Decepticon leaders for over thirty years, since the Generation 1 animated series of the 1980s. They lent their talents to the latest in the film franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, which recently became available on home entertainment.

Voice actors don’t always get the spotlight that on-camera actors do, so getting both Cullen and Welker together is a rare treat. And when they start speaking and you realize who they are, it’s even more impressive.

For Cullen, who plays the heroic and honorable Optimus, this film gave him an opportunity to let loose a bit.

“Going through that whole thing as crazy Optimus [aka the brainwashed Nemesis Prime], he eventually came to his senses — or the writers came to their senses,” Cullen joked, since he has always played the good guy.

Megatron’s Megatransformation

Welker, who has voiced numerous Decepticons, including Soundwave, Galvatron, and now Megatron again, relishes playing the evil roles. In fact, his Megatron has gotten far more sinister over the years, but you’ll have to watch the video to see him explain it.

These veteran voice actors may play foes on screen, but they’re buddies in real-life. You have to see how they answer when FANDOM asks them to swap lines.

Transformers: The Last Knight is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
