CW’s The Flash episode “Flash Back” was filled with stunning scenes and spectacular Easter eggs! Here are our top ten from Tuesday’s episode!
Zoom, Flash, and Reverse Flash Running Animation
To illustrate her declaration that Barry’s running technique is not nearly as refined as Zoom‘s or the Reverse Flash‘s, Caitlin Snow uses a breathtaking animation of the three speedsters running. This definitely ranks as one of the coolest scenes in the episode.
Iris Went on a Date With Her Boss?!?
Iris explains to Barry that she went on a date with her boss. Barry’s reaction mirrors ours, saying that isn’t that somewhat problematic, isn’t that just a headache waiting to happen?
Barry Sees a Time Wraith
In order to learn how to get faster without use of Velocity 9, Barry travels back in time to learn from the Reverse Flash. However, he sees his first Time Wraith, which throws him off, and he lands in an earlier time than intended.
What exactly is a time wraith? Because of the existence of a speedster already wearing a black costume, the time wraith seems to be the show’s version of the comic book Black Flash. The purpose of the time wraiths’ mirrors that of the Black Flash; the Black Flash is something like a herald for the death of a speedster. Also, in the closeup below, the time wraith’s appearance seems to show the remains of a speedster.
Barry vs. Past-Barry
In their fight, Barry demonstrates his lack of fighting improvement. Even though he has learned several new abilities since season 1, he still is very much of a rookie when it comes to incapacitating someone. However, he’s also not trying to hurt or kill himself, which could lead to more complications, complications such as our next moment…
Barry Changes the Future
By warning Team Flash of Hartley’s bomb located inside of his ear, Barry changes the future, the one thing he was strongly warned against. As fans groan at Barry’s blundering mistakes, you have to remember, this Flash isn’t yet the insanely awesome one of the comics, which will hopefully come later.
Eobard Figures It out Right Away
Eobard from the past quickly deduces what has happened. A time-wraith? Wait, the time-wraith isn’t after me, it’s following Barry? He quickly puts together the dots and figures out that Barry is from the future. He doesn’t hesitate to reveal himself after figuring this out, standing up and clocking Barry in the head.
Past-Barry Wakes Up
Number 4 on the list is Barry and Past-Barry’s version of ‘who’s on first?’ Cisco’s reaction in this scene is absolutely priceless; wait, which one of you is real? Even though Barry is definitely messing with the future, he makes no attempts to time-travel again and stop himself from doing this mission to correct the mistakes.
We Are Not the Only Two Speedsters
Definitely one of the best moments from this episode, Eobard tells Barry that they are not the only two speedsters. They are many members of the Flash family, and we have seen several of them teased in some way, such as Jesse Quick, and Wally West, and this seems to be the producer’s way of saying, “yep, we are going to see some more speedsters.”
Cisco Rick-Rolls the Life out of the Pied Piper
Probably one of the best non-comic Easter eggs the tv-show has done, and because of the things Barry has done in the past, Hartley has repaired the relationship with his parents, and is somewhat a “good-guy” now. This deviates from the norm of when you change the past, you mess up the future, because something good benefits from Barry’s mistakes.
Eobard Gives Barry the Information on How to Build a Tachyon Device
Tachyon enhancement, as the Reverse Flash calls it, is given to Barry, and if you happened to catch the Supergirl/Flash crossover, you noticed Barry was wearing one of these tachyon devices. The crossover, in case you didn’t know, actually chronologically took place after the Tuesday episode.
The enhancement is definitely working, because Barry now has the speed to cross dimensions, something he couldn’t do before.
Bonus Moment: Earth-2 Wells Mentions His Dead Wife
For the first time, we hear Wells from Earth-2 mention his dead wife. We don’t yet know who she is, but hopefully this is another reveal they will do this season!
