The New Purge Trailer is a Patriotic Nightmare

Andrew Hawkins

The Purge just keeps getting crazier every year. People around the world are wondering who is going to be the next President of the United States, so what better time than now to unveil the new trailer for The Purge: Election Year. All the madness, mayhem and murder you have come to expect from this franchise has been dialed up to 11. Get ready to celebrate the 4th of July with a bang.

Frank Grillo returns as Sergeant from The Purge: Anarchy to kick ass and protect a Presidential candidate played by Elizabeth Mitchell. Here’s the official synopsis: It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

The Purge is a damn successful franchise. The films typically receive mixed reviews from audiences but still maintain a following from fans of dystopian carnage. Having Frank Grillo on board certainly helps out considering how many Marvel fans are excited to see his return as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War.

Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes have once again worked with James DeMonaco to bring us another chapter in the saga surrounding the longest and bloodiest night of the year. The movie looks to have some very intense and graphic moments as expected, but from what we’re seeing here, this may well be the end of Purge Night entirely. We’ll see what happens on July 1.
