The New ‘Miss Peregrine’ Trailer Is Indeed Peculiar

The second trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is here and it is peculiar, magical, and very Tim Burton-y.

Based on Ransom Rigg’s best-selling novel, the movie centers on Jacob (Asa Butterfield), a seemingly ordinary child who stumbles across a school for gifted youngsters, er, home for peculiar children, run by a time-loop controlling headmistress (Eva Green) who can transform into her namesake bird. Due to a recessive gene carried down through families, the Peculiars have the ability to become invisible, control air, make plants grow, and sport a ravenous mouth on the back of the neck, among other unique skills. They remain hidden from the unaccepting outside world through a magical 24-hour time loop that is reset each day by Miss Peregrine. Jacob learns his peculiarity allows him to help protect the orphans from hollows (Samuel L. Jackson, looking eerily similar to the Collector), monsters that hunt the children for their powers.

The film also stars Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett, and Judi Dench. And if there is any director that can delicately dance the line between creepy and creative, it’s Tim Burton.

Because ordinary is so overrated, isn’t it?

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is in theaters on Sept. 30.
