The Gifted is only one episode into its first season but fans are already on board. The new X-Men TV series has developed a strong fan following and the crowd at New York Comic Con proved that.

We got to watch the first fifteen minutes of the second episode and the crowd was plenty pleased.

No Small Stories

One of the impressive aspects of The Gifted is that it utilizes its budget in the right ways. The show doesn’t scrimp and save when it comes to the big mutant powers. In the second episode, we see Blink recuperating from her long-distance teleportation from the pilot. She’s in shock and her powers are acting up.

And that’s when she unknowingly opens a portal in the middle of a road somewhere. And a truck is barreling towards the opening. It skids and turns sideways just as the portal closes. But, not before the backend of the truck is sliced in half by the portal and nearly slams into our heroes.

This is a moment that would be just as effective in a big screen superhero film. It demonstrates that The Gifted is not messing around.

Get Ready for Some Familiar Faces

And that is reinforced by the fact that this is the first time Fox is working with Marvel directly. Executive producer Jeph Loeb confirmed this and longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner backed it up with a tempting tease.

“There are some more characters that are going to make [the Sentinel Services] seem tame,” Donner said. She also dropped a hint that these characters would be familiar to fans. That only made the crowd more ravenous and excited. Which villains could be showing up by the end of Season 1? And does this mean that familiar evil mutants will show up and hunt our heroes?

The Gifted is clearly doing what fans want, and that’s the best news ever for those of us who love the X-Men universe. The Gifted airs Mondays on FOX at 9/8c.
