Last week, a teaser landed for The Gifted that got everyone excited. Now, the full trailer has dropped. And it’s a cracker. The Gifted is the latest project from 20th Century Fox and Marvel Television and is a spin-off from the X-Men.

The series focuses on two ordinary parents who discover that their children have mutant powers. The family goes on the run from the government, teaming up with an underground band of mutants who are also under threat from the authorities.

The series is penned by Burn Notice writer Matt Nix, and X-Men director Bryan Singer helms the pilot episode meaning there’s some serious muscle behind the project. Strengthening the team are executive producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg of the X-Men films as well as Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory of Marvel shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

The trailer focuses on brother and sister duo Andy and Lauren, played by Percy Hynes White and Natalie Alyn Lind (of The Goldbergs and Gotham) respectively. Lauren is already in control of her powers, while Andy’s are definitely unrefined and, it seems, undiscovered up to now – we see him let loose when he comes under attack from bullies.

It’s this incident that leads to their discovery.

Their father, played by True Blood star Stephen Moyer, works for the government and is responsible for rounding up mutants. On discovering the truth about his kids, he’s clearly compromised but declares that there is nothing more important to him than his family.

The trailer also features X-Men Lorna Dane aka Polaris, and newly created mutant Marcos Diaz aka Eclipse, whose powers are said to include the ability to absorb and manipulate photons. There’s also a glimpse of Clarice Ferguson aka Blink, who is able to create teleportation portals out of thin air. You can also spot actor Blair Redford who is reported to be playing mutant Thunderbird.

The Gifted is connected to the X-Men movies and will feature a Stan Lee cameo. It will air in late 2017-early 2018.
