Jack Black and Kyle Gass — aka Tenacious D — brought their insane new animation to Fantastic Fest last night, and followed the screening with an equally bonkers Q&A and concert.

Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto is a six-part series that’s heading to YouTube later this month, with each episode drawn by Black himself via a series of simple stills. Many of them featuring male genitalia.

The extremely silly plot finds the pair surviving the nuclear apocalypse by hiding in a fridge, helping with efforts to repopulate the earth, heading into space to hang with Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Yo-Yo Ma, and going on adventures with an Austrian robot from the future. All-the-while debuting some pretty amazing new songs, most notably ‘Hope,’ ‘Desolation,’ and ‘Daddy Ding-Dong.’

Just when you think it can’t get any sillier however, the show takes a slightly more serious turn. As the dynamic duo head to the White House — which is being protected by Nazis and the KKK — where they find that Donald Trump Jr caused the apocalypse. It’s still ridiculous, Donald singing songs with his pants around his ankels. But it’s also making a point about tolerance and racial harmony. Which is somewhat unexpected based on what’s come before.

After the screening, Black revealed that seeing Donald Trump Sr announce his candidacy on that escalator was when he started cooking up Post-Apocalypto. And that he took inspiration from the three best films of all-time: The Terminator, The Road Warrior and The Matrix.

The show isn’t for the faint-hearted or those easily offended. But if you like crude drawings, great songs, and penis jokes, Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto will be heaven.

And the boys followed the screening with a brief acoustic set, kicking off with their masterpiece ‘Tribute,’ followed by the title song from their last movie, ‘Pick of Destiny.’ Both of which raised the roof, and rounded out an amazing night.
