It’s been months since our first update on Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy – The Video Game. And while we’re still waiting on news of a release date or gameplay footage, we do have something new to share. Telltale released the first screenshots from in the game, as well as the list of the cast in the game. First, take a look at the screens…
So who is playing who? No one from the film cast looks to be involved, but there is game voice actor standbys like Nolan North (Uncharted, many other games). North will be reprising the role of Rocket Raccoon, who he played in Disney Infinity. Here’s the full cast list from Telltale:
“The series will feature a star-studded cast of voice talent, including Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series) as Star-Lord, Emily O’Brien (The Young and the Restless, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor) as Gamora, Nolan North (the Uncharted series, Pretty Little Liars) as Rocket, Brandon Paul Eells (Watch Dogs) as Drax, and Adam Harrington (The Wolf Among Us, League of Legends) as Groot.”
The game is still slated for Spring, but expect a more concrete update on the first episode soon, as Guardians of the Galaxy – The Video Game will make a gameplay debut next week at SXSW.

The rumors were true! Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy – The Video Game is coming out next year. And yes, it was revealed at The Game Awards as expected. But that really is all we know for now, as we only got to hear some of the great soundtrack and the logo. Who knows if it’s based on the MCU or stars any of the folks from the film. Still, it was a pretty fun teaser all the same.

April of 2015 feels like an eternity ago. That was when Telltale and Marvel announced that they were working together on an unnamed project. Since then, they haven't revealed any information on the project, including what Marvel property the game would be about. Unfortunately for both companies, it looks like the secret is out, thanks to the actors union leaking Guardians of the Galaxy - The Video Game on a list of upcoming projects.
"We're Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy"
Codenamed Blue Harvest (the same fake title George Lucas used for filming Return of the Jedi), Guardians of the Galaxy - The Video Game has apparently been in the works for some time. Though keeping it a secret until closer to launch has been Telltale Games' plan these days. We only first heard about their Batman game a few months before release.
So, now that we know about the game's existence, when will we learn more? While Telltale could respond by announcing it now, there seem to be bigger plans. Like in previous years, Telltale plans to unveil its next title at December's The Game Awards.
Eurogamer reports the Guardians of the Galaxy - The Video Game will be revealed at December's awards ceremony. That's when we'll also get some idea of the release date and the plot. Though that shouldn't stop us from speculating now.
Will It Be Based on the Film?
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming to theaters May 5, 2017, you might assume Guardians of the Galaxy - The Video Game will accompany it. However, Telltale has a spotty history of direct recreations of the most popular adaptations of things.
Yes, Telltale's Game of Thrones is set in the HBO series' continuity, but the Batman season is in its own continuity. Telltale's The Walking Dead is close to the comic book continuity, not the TV series. So will Guardians Of The Galaxy - The Video Game just star the somewhat similar comic book continuity?
As soon as we know, we'll be sure to tell you. So stay tuned to Fandom for whenever Guardians of the Galaxy - The Video Game is officially announced.
