It appears Dylan O’Brien’s accident finally caught up with Teen Wolf. While the powers-that-be won’t confirm recent changes in the shooting schedule are due to O’Brien’s condition, reshoots and additional work on the first half of Season 6, planned for this month, will now take place in October. “Additional 6A work had to be pushed,” Executive Producer Jeff Davis tells Fandom. “We’re going to start first week of October but that may get pushed to second. It’s a bit of a shifting date at the moment. No sooner than October that’s for certain.”
Davis would not comment on why they’re delaying but another source, close to the Teen Wolf production, says Dylan O’Brien “wasn’t ready” for the work planned for August.
Until now, Teen Wolf was still on schedule because they front loaded many of O’Brien’s scenes and filmed them in February before he left to film The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. His accident had little effect on Teen Wolf’s shooting schedule at the time because the plan always included his absence for most of the spring. Now that his recovery has pushed further into the summer than first expected, Teen Wolf is forced to bend to his schedule.
Another wrinkle in the plan
The two-month delay is not all about O’Brien’s health, he’s currently set to film American Assassin with Michael Keaton in September meaning he wouldn’t be available for Teen Wolf next month.
AMERICAN ASSASSIN, the action thriller based on the best-selling Simon & Schuster novel by Vince Flynn, will begin filming this September. Dylan O’Brien will play Mitch Rapp, a student recruited into the shadowy world of counter-terrorism and Michael Keaton will play Rapp’s mentor, Stan Hurley. HOMELAND alumni Michael Cuesta will direct the thriller from a screenplay by Stephen Schiff, with Laura di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler producing.
Despite the delay, Jeff Davis says plans for the back half of Teen Wolf Season 6 continue. The show ends after its 100th episode and Davis is looking forward to the story that will close out the series. “I had a lunch meeting with the writers last week and we went over ideas for the last ten episodes,” he says. “We think we’ve hit on a good theme and supernatural threat for the final round.” The writers’ room is open and plotting for the next ten episodes is underway.
According to MTV News, the first half of Teen Wolf Season 6 will debut on November 15 on MTV, the MTV app, iTunes and Amazon streaming platforms.
