Where Every Star Wars Character Stands Before ‘The Last Jedi’

We are a mere few days away from the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Before we return to a galaxy far, far way, let’s catch up with each character from the new trilogy. Rey, Finn, Leia, Poe, Kylo Ren — do you remember where they were when The Force Awakens ended?

Rey

Rey The Last Jedi
Seeking the last Jedi.

The Force Awakens was Rey‘s film of self-discovery. Before Finn and BB-8 found her, she was a scavenger on Jakku, waiting for her family to come back to her. During the film, she faced off against the First Order, joined the Resistance and discovered she could use the Force. Now Rey is looking for answers — guidance — from the last Jedi left in the galaxy. At the end of The Force Awakens, she was ascending the stairs of Ahch-To to find Luke Skywalker and that’s where she’ll be when The Last Jedi begins. Will Luke teach her? Rey sure hopes so.

Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren The Last Jedi
Recovering on a First Order base.

Kylo Ren was badly injured at the end of The Force Awakens. He had been emotionally, spiritually and physically defeated after killing his father and being overpowered by Rey. His face was badly scarred and his body was burned when General Hux found him in the snow. While we don’t know the exact location of his whereabouts, we know Hux took him to Supreme Leader Snoke. When The Last Jedi begins, Kylo will likely be in recovery on Snoke’s First Order Base. His journey in this film will be to route out the Resistance, which will put him face to face with his mother, Leia Organa.

Finn

Finn The Last Jedi

At the end of The Force Awakens, Finn was badly damaged. He took a strong hit from Kylo Ren on Starkiller Base. Chewbacca came and rescued both Rey and Finn in the Millennium Falcon. When Rey and Chewie returned to the Resistance Base, Finn was still badly damaged. We know that when The Last Jedi begins, he’ll still be recovering. He won’t be in a bacta tank for long though, as he and new character Rose Tico will soon be sent a mission to find DJ.

Luke Skywalker

The Last Jedi Luke Skywalker
Rey finds Luke on Ahc-To.

Luke Skywalker is the one character whom we didn’t see much of in The Force Awakens. The movie was entirely about finding him, but the final pieces of the map weren’t united until Rey returned from Starkiller Base. Once the pieces were united, Rey, R2-D2, and Chewbacca flew the Millennium Falcon to the planet Ahc-To. After a long climb, Rey found Luke. She extended him his father’s lightsaber and the film ended. So where will Luke be in The Last Jedi? Right here. The film will open with Luke accepting the saber and the story will begin. His desire to teach Rey, however, may not happen right away.

General Leia Organa

Her entire world, figuratively this time, has been destroyed.

Our dear Princess Leia. When we catch up with her The Last Jedi Leia will have a lot on her plate. First, she’ll be grieving for Han Solo. How will she reconcile that her own son killed the love of her life? She’ll also be grieving over the loss of the Republic, which was destroyed by the First Order. After blowing up two Death Stars and serving the Rebel Alliance and Resistance for almost her entire life, she’ll be back at square one, with no government and no Republic. How will she recover? We know that she can — this will be her journey in Episode VIII.

Poe Dameron

Poe Dameron, the best pilot in the galaxy (next to Luke and Rey of course) will be putting the pieces of the Republic back together in The Last Jedi. When we last saw him in The Force Awakens, he was returning to the Resistance Base after blowing up Starkiller Base. We know that he’ll continue to lead the Black Squadron in this film, likely to scout out a new Resistance Base on the planet Crait. The question for Poe will be, how long until this new base is found?

While Force Awakens characters like Captain Phasma, General Hux and Supreme Leader Snoke are likely hiding on a First Order Base, new Last Jedi characters Rose Tico and Admiral Holdo will be on the Resistance Base when the film begins. We likely won’t meet Benicio Del Toro’s character DJ until Rose and Finn arrive in Canto Bight.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in the UK on December 14 and the US on December 15.
