We played Splatoon 2 at Nintendo’s Switch reveal event in January, but today’s Nintendo Direct revealed a lot more information about this upcoming release. For starters, it’ll be hitting retail and the Switch eShop on July 21, alongside three new versions of the Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl, and Inkling Squid Amiibo—and the five previous existing Splatoon Amiibo figures will be compatible with the sequel.

The Direct also revealed an entirely new play mode called “Salmon Run,” a horde mode of sorts that pits a team on Inklings against a seemingly endless stream of enemy fish trying to take control of a small area. Like the core game, it’ll offer rewards to players, so it’ll be just as worthwhile to jump into this mode for some multiplayer action. We still have more to discover before Splatoon 2 launches on July 21, so be sure to keep an eye on Fandom as we continue our coverage of this upcoming game.
