Sacred Lies is a new series on Facebook Watch. It’s based on the novel The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes, which was inspired by the Brothers Grimm story “The Handless Maiden.”

The show tells the story of a teenage girl named Minnow Bly, played by Elena Kampouris. She spent 12 years of her life living in a cult, but one day emerges from the woods with both of her hands missing — and the leader of her cult is found dead.

Minnow is arrested for assaulting a young boy and ends up in a juvenile detention center. There she meets Dr. Wilson, played by Kevin Carroll. He’s a forensic psychologist who works for the FBI and wants to learn more about the cult and its enematic leader known as The Prophet. But Dr. Wilson may have his own mysterious reasons for wanting to learn more about Minnow’s life.

Minnow must face the demons in her past and decide if she can trust Dr. Wilson. She must also learn to navigate her two new worlds: both the one outside the cult and the one inside juvie. Luckily she has her cellmate Angel, played by Kiana Madeira, to show her the ropes. Angel and Minnow form an unlikely bond, with Angel helping and protecting her new friend.

The show flashes back and forth between Minnow’s life in the detention center and her past, to show how her family joined the cult. Find out what happened to Minnow Bly on Sacred Lies. New episodes Fridays, only on Facebook Watch.
