The following article contains spoilers for Deadpool 2.
Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool 2 team screened new footage from the forthcoming extended cut of their movie, and it included a scene in which Wade Wilson travels back in time to kill Hitler.
The scene is an addition to the film’s closing sequence that finds Deadpool travelling through time to right the wrongs of the past, saving Vanessa’s life, killing Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and taking out Ryan Reynolds before he has a chance to make Green Lantern.
The sequence now ends with Deadpool journeying to Germany in 1889, where he enters a hospital and makes his way towards baby Adolf’s crib. “This is tough” he says “This is so much harder than I thought.” But following a fair amount of procrastination, his hands move towards the child, the scene cutting out just before he does the deed.
Reynolds introduced more scenes and extended sequences alongside director David Leitch, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Zazie Beetz (Domino), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus) and Karan Soni (Dopinder).
The footage included a longer opening sequence with alternate jokes, and an extended version of the scene in which Deadpool, Cable and Domino bicker in Dopinder’s taxi.
Plus there was another new scene, which kicks off with Colossus working out on the X-Mansion lawn. We cut to indoors where Wade is pretending that he’s changed his ways, colour-coding the food in the fridge, and — as Negasonic puts it — dressing like a registered sex offender. It also becomes clear that he’s filled the soap dispenser with sperm, while the scene ends with Deadpool flipping Negasonic the bird.
During the Q&A section of the panel, Reynolds said that presenting Deadpool footage at the 2015 Comic-Con was “The definitive experience of my career” adding that he’d been trying to make the movie since before his wife Blake Lively was born, and stating “Deadpool was made because of the people in this room.”
He joked that “the second movie is here because of corporate greed” and when asked about his feelings towards Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he said “Both have been an endless well-spring of jokes for Deadpool, so I can’t hate either of them. But they’re both pretty bad.”
Finally, intriguingly, someone asked if Juggernaut dies at the end of the film. Director Leitch responded by saying “Watch closely on the Blu-ray to the end frame and you’ll get your answer.”
