With Season 3 of Rick and Morty drawing to a close, we’ve been scouring past episodes for the best words of wisdom from the cleverest man in the universe: Mr. Rick Sanchez. So, the above video and following quotes are what FANDOM is calling ‘The Philosophy of Rick.’

Rick on Love

“Listen, Morty, I hate to break it to you, but what people call love is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed. It hits hard, Morty, then it slowly fades, leaving you stranded in a failing marriage. I did it. Your parents are going to do it. Break the cycle, Morty. Rise above. Focus on science.”

Rick on Therapy

“I don’t respect therapy because I’m a scientist. Because I invent, transform, create, and destroy for a living, when I don’t like something about the world, I change it. And I don’t think going to a rented office in some strip mall to listen to some agent of averageness explain which words mean which feelings has ever helped anyone do anything. I think it’s helped a lot of people get comfortable and stop panicking, which is a state of mind [burp] we value in the animals we eat, but not something I want for myself. I’m not a cow, I’m a pickle. When I feel like it.”

Rick on School

“It’s a waste of time. Bunch of people running around bumping into each other. Guy up front says two-plus-two, people in the back say four. Then the bell rings and they give you a carton of milk and a piece of paper that says you can go take a dump or something. It’s not a place for smart people, Jerry. I know that’s not a popular opinion. But that’s my two cents on the issue.”

Rick on Fear

“I know that new situations can be intimidating — you’re looking around and it’s all scary and different. But meeting them head on; charging right into them like a bull, that’s how we grow as people. I’m no stranger to scary situations, I deal with them all the time. Now if you just stick with me, Morty… [Terrifying monster appears] HOLY CRAP, MORTY, RUN MORTY RUN, I’VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE IN MY LIFE MORTY I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS WE’VE GOT TO GET OUT OF HERE MORTY IT’S GOING TO KILL US WE’RE GONNA DIE, WE’RE GONNA DIE MORTY.”

Rick and Morty airs on AdultSwim in the States and Netflix in the UK
