Chaos Walking has some serious pedigree behind it. Yes, it’s an adaptation of a YA novel but you shouldn’t think that it’s another Hunger Games wannabe. The dystopian future in this has a unique twist to it: every living being on the planet constantly hears each other’s thoughts. There was also a germ that has killed every woman on the planet. It’s in this setup that two young people, Todd and Viola, discover each other and navigating through this horrible future.

The project nabbed a big catch when Daisy Ridley was announced to play the lead role of Viola. Now, it’s looking like she’ll be joined by another rising star, Tom Holland. That’s right, this film will be anchored by the leads from The Force Awakens and Spider-Man: Homecoming. If Chaos Walking wasn’t on your radar before, it better be after this exciting news.

Want another reason to keep your attention on this? Charlie Kaufman worked on the screenplay. Charlie. Kaufman. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, let’s see if you recognize some of his incredible work. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindBeing John Malkovich. Anomalisa. Adaptation The Dana Carvey Show. …OK, nobody is perfect but you see how talented the guy is. If he’s putting his name on this, it’s not going to be your usual YA product.

Not to mention that Doug Liman is sitting in the director’s chair. Liman directed The Bourne Identity and the recent mini-masterpiece Edge of Tomorrow. He’s got a great eye when it comes to crafting sci-fi worlds that feel believable. Sounds like he’s the right guy to take on the job.

Between the stars, the writer, and the director, Chaos Walking is shaping up to be something special. The film is scheduled to release sometime in 2018, so we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for this.
