Dynamite Entertainment and Red Sonja, LLC announced at SDCC that Shout! Factory has adapted the critically acclaimed Red Sonja: Queen of Plagues into a full-length animated feature. The film will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD Aug. 2, 2016.

Red Sonja: Queen of Plagues has the crimson-tressed heroine intending to pay back a blood debt owed to the one man who has gained her respect… even if it means leading a doomed army to their certain deaths! Who is Dark Annisia, and how has this fearsome warrior accomplished what neither god nor demon has been able to do: force Sonja to her knees in surrender? An epic tale of blood, lust, and vengeance, Queen of Plagues takes the She-Devil with a Sword from the depths of her own grave to the heights of battlefield glory.

The writer of the comic storyline, Gail Simone, says, “Red Sonja’s my favorite character, and seeing my words and the dazzling art of Walter Geovani brought to life has been absolutely thrilling. It’s just a big, fun, sexy, sweaty epic with the best sword and sorcery character of all time!” We’re just as excited about this badass heroine coming to the small screen. Check out the trailer for the upcoming film below!

This is on top of the Red Sonja video game announcement. The multi-format game will be ready for release this upcoming winter, signifying a big reemergence of the character. Could this mean that we'll be seeing Conan the Barbarian and her team up in the future? I'm secretly hoping that we will as I'd love to see Arnold Schwarzenegger put on that fur lined speedo again.
