Ready Player One is going to be a pretty big deal for fans of… well, everything. Steven Spielberg’s new film adapts the popular novel by Ernest Cline about a future where people visit a digital plane known as OASIS. The twist: they get to model themselves after any characters from pop culture they want.

And you’ll see plenty of that going on in this new trailer for the film. Adjust your VR visors and give it a watch!

Let the Games Begin

Ready Player One
Get ready to see lots of character cameos like the Iron Giant.

The film stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts, a poor kid who goes hunting for a remarkable treasure in OASIS. The treasure was left by the creator of OASIS, James Halliday (Mark Rylance). Many have tried to hunt down Halliday’s treasure but to no avail. When Wade makes it farther than anyone else ever has, it sets off a chain of events that will change the fate of the world.

Steven Spielberg, a professed video game fan, has stepped in to direct this long-awaited adaptation and he’s bringing his sense of futuristic scale to it. And it’s hard to deny the great use of Van Halen’s “Jump” in this trailer. The previous trailer used a rearrangement of “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Rush’s seminal “Tom Sawyer.” As far as music choices go, this marketing has been on point.

We’ll see how much this nostalgia atom bomb resonates with audiences when it opens in theaters on March 30, 2018.
