The Pokémon Go app has been going strong since in early July, but hasn’t seen much in the way of the major additions to the game. For all the new tips and weird news, what’s really changed about it? Very soon the app will see arguably it’s most impactful update: the Pokémon Go Buddy System intends to change that by having players pal around with their favorite Pokémon in their Pokédex.

Pokemon Go Buddy

Developer Niantic announced it today on the official page. Here’s how they describe the Pokémon Go Buddy System:

“The next addition to Pokémon GO will be Buddy Pokémon. You will be able to pick your favorite Pokémon from your collection to become your buddy, opening up unique in-game rewards and experiences. Buddy Pokémon will appear alongside your Trainer avatar on your profile screen, adding helpful bonuses such as awarding Candy for walking together. You’ll also have the ability to change your Buddy Pokémon at any time.”

My Buddy and Me

That means you’ll be getting bonuses and buffs when exploring with your favored monsters, including candies that’ll help with leveling up the more uncommon monsters in your collection. It sounds like a great way to create even more of a bond with your fave Pokémon.

The Pokémon Go Buddy System doesn’t have a firm release date, but Niantic says the launch will come sometime this fall. With all the other updates we’re still waiting on, the Pokémon Go Buddy System can’t come soon enough.
