For eight long months, fans were left wondering if they would ever get another season of the off-beat action comedy anime One-Punch Man. At the ‘One-Punch Man Fall Festival’ held in Japan over the weekend, staff and cast finally announced that the anime is getting a second season. The announcement was then also confirmed on Twitter.

Animation studio Madhouse and director Shingo Natsume’s first 12-episode anime season aired in Japan last winter with Viz Media streaming the series outside of Japan.

What Is One-Punch Man?

One-Punch Man is based on the ongoing Japanese superhero parody webcomic created by the artist, ONE. Released in 2009, the webcomic, manga, and series have received critical acclaim for its off-beat humor and all-out action.

The story follows Saitama, an overpowered superhero who is bored with the absence of challenge in his fight against evil. Despite having incredible powers, Saitama struggles to gain respect from his peers and most of them look down on him due to his dull physical look and belief that he is a fake hero. However, he manages to make some friends who recognize his talent and humility towards others. The last season ended with Saitama destroying Pluton (the king of the underworld) with one punch. Therefore, coming to the realization that he is back to one punch defeats.

While You Wait

The studio hasn’t yet released information on when the anime will return or which story arc they will adapt. However, one thing is for sure, there’s an endless source of material to continue even further than two seasons.

But, if you’ve already binged on One-Punch Man, then take a look at Mob Psycho 100. Both anime shows share the same creator and have a similar tone and feel. The series follows Kageyama Shigeo a.k.a. Mob, a typical ESP-equipped eighth grader who, from time to time, gets too emotional and explodes.

One-Punch Man season one is available on Hulu and episodes of Mob Psycho 100 are available on CrunchyRoll.
