On Aug. 11, Blizzard Entertainment will release One Night in Karazhan, the next adventure for their wildly popular card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. For those unfamiliar with the adventure format, adventures serve to supplement the much larger expansions. Usually consisting of a smaller set of cards, players must work to progress through a number of “wings” with normal and harder “heroic” versions. Bosses also provide class challenges, and adventures typically reward new cards as well as present new strategies. Here is the trailer for what will be Hearthstone‘s fourth adventure.
One Night in Karazhan ties into the recently released World of Warcraft movie. One of the main characters in the big screen adaptation is the powerful mage, Medivh, and a number of scenes take place within the upper reaches of Medivh’s tower, Karazhan, itself. In typical tongue-in-cheek fashion, some of the cards reference another well-known “dinner party” – that of the intimate party in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
As with the previous adventures, there is also a new game board included in One Night in Karazhan. Game boards add nothing functionally to the game, but each has clickable components in their four corners that tend to trigger a special effect. This way players have something to do to pass the time while their opponents think. For instance, one of the original boards, Orgrimmar, allows players to drag a boulder to a catapult and then launch it across the screen.
As always, the prologue to One Night in Karazhan is free. Players then have the option of purchasing all four wings at once or a la carte with real-world money or in-game gold. Provided all the wings are purchased within one week of launch by a player, that player will also receive a unique card back design to decorate their cards.
Hearthstone‘s One Night in Karazhan adventure is available Aug. 11 on Battle.net.
