Destiny players rejoice! Today begins Bungie’s unveiling of the April 2.2.0 update, which will freshen things up a bit for players who’ve beaten everything The Taken King expansion has to offer. Here’s where the story stands for players who’ve defeated Oryx:

The battered remnants of the Reef are mopping up the lingering Taken forces throughout the system. The worst have been captured by the Awoken and await judgment in the Prison of Elders, but a pretender to Oryx’s vacant throne has escaped Variks’ vengeful grasp. Hunt the dark beast down before he grows too powerful and reap the rewards that await you.

Who is this dark beast? Does Crota have a brother we never knew about? Maybe. Or perhaps it’s someone or something else entirely. We’ll know soon enough.

Today’s announcement details the new challenges that next month’s update will offer. The first bit of info that should please players is this: the maximum Light level will be raised to 335, to help players complete these difficult new challenges. Guardians should also be excited to learn that difficulty and rewards have been increased in the following missions and events:

Difficulty and rewards will also be increased in the Court of Oryx, where artifact drops now have a chance of dropping at the new maximum Light level. As for the King’s Fall raid, normal mode drops will be increased to Light level 320, and hard mode drops have been increased to a maximum Light level of 330.

The Prison of Elders will also be receiving a much-needed update, where players will be able to fight Taken and eight updated bosses. Variks will also offer a new scored mode in PoE called “Challenge of the Elders,” which will feature weekly boss battles, new gameplay twists, and brand new rewards.

You’ll also be able to claim an Elders’ Sigil from Variks each week, which will involve you and your Fireteam fighting three consecutive boss waves. Claiming the sigil will be a different experience each week, as the bosses and gameplay modifiers will change. And yes, your score will be tracked on the Bungie.net Leaderboards.

Bungie also announced a few new strikes and quests, which will revolve around whoever or whatever is trying to claim Oryx’s vacant throne. One of these new strikes is called The Blighted Chalice, and will take place on the Moon. There’s also a Taken Strike that will happen on Venus at Winter’s Run, where players will have to fight their way to a cell from the Prison of Elders to stop a surge of Taken.

Over the next two weeks, Bungie will continue to announce new content for the 2.2.0 update, which will arrive on April 12. Excited yet? We are!
