I didn’t know what The Get Down was until today, when I saw Netflix’s amazing sizzle reel for it.  The show, created by Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann, is described as “a mythic saga of the transformation of 1970s New York City,” centered on “a ragtag crew of South Bronx teens.”

This sizzle reel, while not a proper trailer, is really selling me on the show. It’s clearly not a cheap endeavor — just look at the costumes, choreography, and sets! With a big cast of diverse and talented actors, this story of disco and the rise of hip-hop looks to be one of Netflix’s most exciting forays into original programming.

Watch the sizzle reel here. Beware: It features some profanity.

The series will premiere later this year.
