Netflix has had great success with their Marvel shows so far. Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones have established strong fanbases that are eager for another dive into the world of those characters. Luckily, we’ll be getting just that with the premiere of Daredevil‘s second season on March 18th. But, today’s news should make fans doubly excited.

Mike Colter — Luke Cage himself — announced at a red carpet premiere for Daredevil season two that his series, Luke Cage, will be premiering on September 30th. We’re getting two Marvel movies (Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange) this year along with two new seasons of Netflix’s Marvel shows? Truly, our cups runneth over.

Colter did a fantastic job as Cage in the first season of Jessica Jones, and it’s going to be a blast seeing him headline his own story. We know that the showrunners aren’t shying away from some controversial material — set photos showed Luke subduing police officers — and I think Colter is more than up to the task of delivering an entertaining hero that also tackles some real world issues.

Luke Cage will delve more into Luke’s past as well as the experiment that gave him his indestructibility. Can we expect some potential crossover with Daredevil and/or Jessica Jones? Perhaps some kind of tease as to what we might expect from the upcoming Iron Fist show? In the comics, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are close friends and start the Heroes for Hire business together. It would be a shame to ignore the opportunity to start sewing the seeds of excitement for Netflix’s next Marvel adaptation.

It’s great to see Netflix’s MCU shows figuring themselves out as a cohesive universe, and Luke Cage should be another big step forward towards The Defenders.
