With Game of Thrones Season 7 right around the corner, we’re asking which up-to-now less prominent storylines might get their due attention come July. Here’s FANDOM’s pick of the most intriguing.
Great Joy For Yara Greyjoy?
The trailer for Season 7 tantalised us with that steamy embrace between Yara and Ellaria Sand. All right, let’s call it what it was, a full-on snog. Maybe she’s found the love of her life. Or maybe she’s just having some fun.
But what fans are wondering is: does this mean she’s about to die? Ellaria previously killed Myrcella Baratheon when she planted a poisoned kiss on her lips in the finale of Season 5. Thought to be the daughter of Cersei and King Robert Baratheon, Myrcella was actually fathered by Cersei’s brother, Jaime – and dies in her real father’s arms.
Or perhaps Yara will team up with Ellaria instead. We last saw Yara standing with her brother Theon as the pair sailed towards Westeros with Daenerys. Ellaria has pledged allegiance to Daenerys, even giving her Dorne ships for her armada. It seems like these guys might all be in it together.
However, in the trailer, both Yara and Theon are no longer seen with Dany. Could they have gone their separate ways? Another theory is that the Greyjoy siblings are on a mission to take down their evil uncle Euron – at the behest of Daenerys.
Samwell Tarly in Old Town
Samwell Tarly is one of Game of Thrones‘ most morally on point characters. It would be great to see him growing in importance through Season 7.
Season 6 left Sam at the Citadel, in awe of the sheer scale of the library. There’s definitely plenty here for him to discover and, in turn, to be revealed to us. Could the Citadel hold vital clues to future events? And buried within these books, could Sam stumble across a cure for greyscale? Let’s hope so – no one wants Jorah Mormont to die!
And what about Sam’s fearsome father? We could well see the odious Randyll pursue him in search of Heartsbane, the Valyrian steel sword and family heirloom Sam stole before heading off. Good old Samwell will most likely be crucial in uncovering ways to combat the White Walkers – and no doubt Heartsbane will feature prominently.
Sansa and Littlefinger
Things are looking up for Jon Snow and sister Sansa at the end of Season 6. But although Sansa reached out to Littlefinger for help and he answered her call, a look shared between them in the season finale suggests there’s plenty of residual tension between Sansa and the lord otherwise known as Petyr Baelish.
Will she side with him? Or is she playing him? She’s a lot more independent, hardened and wily following what’s happened to her. And could she ever forgive Baelish for giving her to Ramsay, who raped her and treated her so appallingly? She will probably seek a bloody and satisfying revenge. He definitely deserves his comeuppance.
Another interesting addition to the mix is The Hound – also known as Sandor Clegane – who is heading north with the Brotherhood. Perhaps they’ll stop at Winterfell at which point Sansa could find out the full extent of Littlefinger’s betrayal – Clegane could well let on that her father Eddard died because of him. In the great scheme of things, The Hound had a relatively touching relationship with Sansa – in a world where the tiniest amount of empathy goes a long way. He tried to make life a little less bleak for Sansa when she was being held by the Lannisters.
Folllowing these revelations, maybe Sansa or Jon will then order Littlefinger’s execution. He’s a great character and has been superb for moving the plot along, with his double-crossing and manipulating. But his value to the story has lessened as the White Walkers take on greater prominence, and there are very few people left on whom his tactics will make a difference. Surely there are no more double dealings left to be done with just two seasons to run.
Then there’s the possibility that Littlefinger will kill Sansa. If that happens, who wouldn’t then love to see Arya take him out?
