We love Tim Burton movies for their eccentric style, crazy over-the-top costumes, and often misunderstood outcast protagonists. Burton’s latest creation is the book-to-film adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which premieres on Sept. 30. The story follows a group of ragtag children with “peculiar” abilities, ranging from the ability to float, super strength, and even the power to control a swarm of bees. The film features an all-star cast, including Eva Green and Asa Butterfield. Meet the cast and main characters from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and learn about their special abilities!

Miss Peregrine

The woman in charge of everything is Miss Peregrine, the headmistress of the school for peculiar children. Eva Green will be playing Miss Peregrine in the film. She is an Ymbryne, a person who can transform into a bird and manipulate time. Miss Peregrine creates a magical “time loop”, which repeats every day on Sept. 3, 1940, to hide and protect the peculiar children in her custody.

Jacob

Jacob Portman, portrayed by Asa Butterfield, is our protagonist. He is a seemingly normal, nerdy kid until he discovers the world of the peculiar children and finds out that he is one of them too. Jacob’s ability is that he can see hollowgasts and wights, the monsters that threaten the existence of all of the peculiar children. He is essential to the survival of his new friends.

Emma

Emma Bloom, Jacob’s love interest and confidante, is lighter than air and has the ability to float. She’s even making steel shoes fashionable again! In the books, Emma can create fire with her hands but Tim Burton decided to switch Emma’s powers with Olive’s for the movie. In the movie trailer, Emma can manipulate air so that she can even breathe underwater. Ella Purnell portrays Emma and she effortlessly conveys the confidence and allure of the Emma we know from the books.

Olive

Olive takes pyromania to the next level. She has pyrokinetic abilities and can create fire with her hands. She is also completely immune to flames and can produce orbs of light. Let’s just say that you don’t want to get on Olive’s bad side.

Millard

Millard is much more than meets the eye (literally). He has the power of invisibility, therefore he is often nude so he can completely hide from those around him – although occasionally Miss Peregrine makes him put on his clothes so that his friends can at least see a jacket and pair of shoes walking towards them. Millard is also the resident expert on all things peculiar.

Bronwyn

Bronwyn is just downright adorable, isn’t she? That is, until she lifts up a boulder over her head and chucks it in your direction. By now, you’ve probably deduced that Bronwyn has super strength. Despite her small stature, she is not to be underestimated. Bronwyn can lift a ton over her head without breaking a sweat.

The Twins

The Masked Ballerinas don’t have a large role in the book series, but they will make an appearance in the movie as The Twins. While their masks alone can probably scare away a few monsters, the twins also have telepathic abilities.
