While plenty of fans are chomping at the bit for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, those of us who like our Batman with a little more laughter are excited to get a first look at The Lego Batman Movie, a spinoff of the immensely popular (and really great) The Lego Movie. Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer. Give it a watch and then we can yammer on about it for a bit.

Will Arnett’s portrayal of the Dark Knight is charming even though he’s pompous and purposefully unlikable. This teaser’s main bit — the microwaved lobster — is so silly and odd that it feels perfect for this version of the character. We get a few brief glimpses of some bigger action scenes (hey, it’s the Justice League!), but this movie is going to live or die based on its comedy, and what we see here looks like a good sign. Arnett has the character down, so now it’s just a matter of seeing all the wacky situations and interactions the movie throws at him. I wonder how many referential jokes will be made when it comes to Batman’s long and storied history, since the medium of stop-motion animation allows for more diversions into zanier territory. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an appearance by Zebra Batman.

The Lego Batman Movie stars Arnett as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, and Michael Cera as Robin. Expect some more fun celebrity voices and cameos to show up. The Lego Batman Movie comes out on February 10, 2017.
