What We Know About the Final Season of ‘The Originals’

Just a little over a year since the eighth and final season of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was announced, Julie Plec has, yet again, delivered us some devastating news: season five of ‘The Originals’ will be the series’ last. I’d like to take a little time to remember the last four years and share what we think is in store for the final season.

The Announcement

Plec took to Twitter earlier today to deliver the devastating news. At least she took the time to explain, that counts for something, right? Wrong.

Joseph Morgan who played Niklaus Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals left some words of inspiration on Twitter as well.

What’s in Store?

First, let’s get the nitty-gritty out of the way. Our beloved, Michael Narducci, will not return for the final season. We’re being left at the hands of the most brutal showrunner employed at the CW.

The Originals gia
Plec seems to enjoy killing off our favourite characters, like Gia

Plec was showrunner of the series when Camille O’Connell, Finn Mikaelson, Jackson Kenner and basically every one of our favourite characters died and fans have not been happy with her. Let’s not also forget that when the show introduced Gia and then, just when things were getting good with Elijah, Plec killed her off only a half a dozen episodes later. Yeah, Plec’s the worst.

There is some good news, though. Both Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes will make an appearance, you know, seeing as Hope attends the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted. Could this mean that we get to see Hope master her power and become the witch that even the almighty Dahlia feared? I hope so, that would be the “epitome of a fulfilled life.”

Interestingly, there seems to be some kind of a time jump, because, let’s face it, The Originals isn’t The Originals without a cheeky time jump. This could possibly mean the reappearance of the Mikaelson siblings, as a whole, of course, not just individuals. However, it is unlikely that Claire Holt will reprise her role as a series regular, but we can hope.

Could The Originals Come Back From the Dead?

There is also an outside chance that sometime down the line The Originals could return. Plec once noted that she isn’t forgetting the show and its counterpart that ended last year anytime soon.

“I could see our universes coming together in five years, 10 years, when people miss the shows”

So, maybe she’s not all bad. Maybe.

For now, that’s all we can predict. Make sure to tune into the final season, which will air in the midseason. For up-to-date spoilers and news, keep an eye on The Vampire Diaries Wiki spoilers page.
