SPOILER ALERT: Warning, this article contains spoilers from the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga which may appear in the anime series adaptation. Proceed at your own risk.

After years of fantastically adapting one of the most prolific manga ever written, the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime will finally tackle Vento Aureo. The fifth part of the series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Windwill follow the exploits of Giorno Giovanna, DIO’s illegitimate son. This season, the young Stand user and his allies will try to restore honor to the gangs of Italy in 2001. Of course, when nearly every member of the gang possesses a deadly supernatural power, this is much easier said than done.

Part five of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure continues the unparalleled artwork, creativity, and style of the previous sections of the manga. To see one of the most fun and unapologetically weird parts of the series transformed into an anime will be an absolute treat for both longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike. So, here’s a small taste of what you can expect in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind based on the illustrious manga.

Copious Characters

More protagonists than ever before and plenty of returning fan-favorites.

Golden Wind is set to have a diverse and substantial collection of characters. The story will follow seven protagonists as they travel across Italy, and it will also bring back some notable characters from previous installments. While this number of characters can sometimes make the story feel a bit disjointed when the spotlight switches from one to another, the hilarious and charming dialogue between the cast more than makes up for it.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is well known for its strange and enticing characters, and Golden Wind will feature some of the best and worst characters in the series. As each protagonist belongs to a gang, they all have unusual priorities and atypical values. For example, the hardened mobster, Bucciarati, despises his gang’s drug dealings to the point of rebellion. On the other hand, Abbacchio, a former cop, believes he can do more good for his community as a criminal. This leads to some characters being deeply charming and valuable, while other protagonists never really click and exit the story before the halfway point.

Fabulous Outfits

Prepare to witness some high-fashion fighters.

The clothes worn by the characters of Golden Wind are — by far — some of the best in the entire series. JoJo’s contains a copious amount of handsome men and women in fierce outfits voguing their way towards their enemies before beating them nearly to death. Part five, though, dials this up even further. Heroes and villains alike wear the absolute highest of European high fashion.

Each character proudly dresses in form-fitting clothing with either bright colors, intricate patterns, or completely unnecessary holes. The main antagonist even adorns himself in an elaborate mesh body stocking and a pair of studded jeans. Before you watch Golden Wind, prepare yourself to witness some magnificent and striking character designs.

A Lot of Story Adjustments

Expect some changes for the sake of consistency.

The manga, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo, has some of the most creative battles and power sets in the series. Unfortunately, it also contains glaring stretches in logic and ability inconsistencies. Even the best manga authors sometimes struggle to keep things consistent, especially when its a large volume of work. The mistakes just become more noticeable when its a creator of Hirohiko Araki‘s caliber.

For instance, sometimes a Stand will transform into a more powerful entity when shot by a stand arrow. Other times, it just leaves them and their user wounded. There isn’t any explanation given for this inconsistency, and there are more like it within Vento Aureo. Thankfully, the anime will have a chance to clear up most of these issues and better execute the manga’s stellar ideas.

Numerous Name Changes

Expect some subtle name changes to keep the lawyers at bay.

The naming conventions applied to the characters in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are unparalleled. Many of the characters and Stands are named after the bands, musicians, albums, and songs the author listens to. The namesakes Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Vanilla Ice, Boyz II Men, and Pearl Jam all hilariously appear without any character commenting on their iconic names.

As you’d imagine, though, not every musical group is okay with their name or intellectual property getting co-opted for a fictional character. While the jump from manga to anime has forced name changes in the past, there will be more than ever in Golden Wind. Notably, the names Notorious B.I.G., Metallica, and Sex Pistols will need changing, as their real-life counterparts all have well-documented histories of legal feuds.

A Refined Art Direction

Looking better all the time.

It’s breathtaking to see the gradual change in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s art style over time. In parts one and two, nearly every male character was so hyper-muscular that they put most He-Man characters to shame. This art direction gradually changed over time. By part five, most characters had the proportions of Hollywood actors and fashion models. Not only does this change demonstrate Araki’s versatility as an artist, but it also showcases how depictions and perceptions of masculinity changed from the 80s to the 90s and into the 2000s.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind is set to be one of the best-looking installments of the anime to date. There’s a definite look to each section of JoJo’s that is remarkable and beautiful in its own right. Parts one and two are dripping with 80s charm, part three showcases an explicit action movie aesthetic, and part four uses bright and unexpected color combinations to create a distorted version of a familiar small-town setting. Part five of the manga feels like every panel aspired to be a work of classical Roman art. Surely, this will translate into one of the most visually impressive anime ever created.
