Is ‘Cable & Deadpool’ the Plan for ‘Deadpool 2’?

With the early buzz on Deadpool being extremely positive, the rumor mill is starting to spin about Deadpool 2. The folks who saw the surprise screening in Los Angeles were treated to a post-credits scene, but we won’t spoil what that was. Suffice to say, it sounds like something much more comedic rather than a tease of things to come.

However, these post-credits scenes are often shot very close to release in order to avoid any potential snooping going on. The surprise screening in New York didn’t even get a post-credits scene, so is it possible that a more monumental teaser is planned for the theatrical release? Fox made it clear that the version shown to those lucky fans was an unfinished cut, so there might be something bigger in store for the wide release version.

There’s some evidence to back this up. A few months ago, the Deadpool screenwriters said that the studio was attempting to get a “phenomenal” post-credits scene together. A lot of theories could be thrown at what this might be, especially since Fox will also be releasing X-Men: Apocalypse a few months later. Could Deadpool be making his way into the X-Men universe proper? Will we be getting that Wolverine cameo that fans have been clamoring for?

The most exciting possibility is what this eventual teaser could mean for Deadpool 2. Seeing as how Fox owns the X-Men characters’ film rights, they do have the ability to insert fan-favorite Cable into the sequel. When asked by fans if Cable was being considered for the sequel, director Tim Miller said he was well aware of the fans’ desire to see the character in the sequel. Ryan Reynolds took it one step further by answering, “From your lips to God’s ears, my friend. Believe me, that’s being talked about.”

It’s been clear from the onset that the people behind Deadpool have been making a movie for the fans, and I’d be shocked if Cable & Deadpool isn’t the next step in maintaining that audience’s love. Plus, you know Deadpool will make some dig about getting second billing in his own sequel. That’s just too easy a joke not to make.
