Insidious: The Last Key is coming out soon, and if you’re a fan of the supernatural horror franchise, there are some key things you need to know before you return to The Further.
The Last Key is a sequel to a prequel. While it’s the fourth film in the Insidious series, it’s actually the second in chronological order. While 2015’s Insidious: Chapter 3 took us back to the beginning, The Last Key takes place after that, but still long before the events of the original Insidious.
The franchise welcomes back standout cast member Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, a demonologist who faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet.
Elise is called to investigate a house in New Mexico, where the inhabitants are being tormented by an evil force. Elise is shocked to learn — plot twist — that it’s her own childhood home. There she must confront the depraved and intimidating demons that once tormented her and her family.
The Last Key opens the door to Elise’s haunted early life, and we see how the terrifying demons who torment us as children, can always come back.
Also coming back, fan-favorite pair Tucker and Specs are once again at Elise’s side.
Returning behind the scenes are the creative minds behind the Insidious trilogy. Director Adam Robe-i-tel is a newcomer, but The Last Key is written by co-creator Leigh wan-el Whannell, who wrote the trilogy and directed Chapter 3. Insidious regulars Jason Blum, Oren Peli and co-creator James Wan are producing.
Will Elise silence the evil that she’s unlocked? Find out when Insidious: The Last Key opens.
