Lucasfilm and Disney have just confirmed the upcoming release dates for the next installments in two of the biggest movie franchises ever: Star Wars and Indiana Jones. And the new dates should make fans of both beloved series happy.

Star Wars: Episode IX is now set for release on May 24, 2019. That’s a shift away from the December release window that Disney’s Star Wars movies (The Force Awakens and Rogue One) have had so far.

The May date for Episode IX is a return to the long-established pattern of Star Wars movies hitting theaters in May. So, this is an announcement that should please fans who held the May release tradition in high regard. Disney’s upcoming untitled Han Solo film is also expected to have a May release date.

Star Wars: Episode IX is the last film in the third Star Wars trilogy and the follow-up to Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It will be directed by Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow. And while it’s not part of the release date announcement, last we heard Trevorrow is expected to write Star Wars: Episode IX, too, with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.

We also have a brand new date for the release of Indiana Jones 5. It’s confirmed for July 10, 2020.

2020 is a little later than fans previously expected — we’d been told to expect a new Indy movie in 2019. While waiting is hard to do, fans will be pleased to learn that Steven Spielberg, the director of every Indiana Jones film, is still on track to direct.

Need another reason to be happy? Indiana Jones series star Harrison Ford, who will be 78 by the time the movie hits screens, is all set to reprise his role as the legendary adventurer.

There’s no word on what the story for Indiana Jones 5 will be, but we do know that Speilberg has been working on the script for some time.

Ford, who last sported the fedora in the oft-maligned Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, had gone on record saying he wanted to do another Indy movie, but the script had to be good. So, the extra year of development here means more time to work out a great story.
