5 Times Han and Chewie Were Totally Friendship Goals

Han Solo and Chewbacca are one of cinema’s most well-known double-acts. Think of one of them, and you cannot help but think of the other. They are clearly best friends, even if they do argue a bit at times. But which friends don’t? Han and Chewie are virtually inseparable (at least until Kylo Ren arrived on the scene).

Solo: A Star Wars Story promises to delve deeper into the relationship between Han and Chewie and show us just how these two lovable rogues come to be the best of friends.

Here are five heart-warming moments from our favorite Corellian smuggler and his Wookiee first mate.

Han learns just how old Chewie is

In the Solo trailer, we see some of the early moments of Han and Chewie’s friendship. As Han pilots the Millennium Falcon trying to escape pursuing Imperial TIE fighters, Chewie steps up to help him fly. Han doesn’t know Chewie has piloting skills and learns that his Wookiee companion is 190 years old! Han’s response? Chewie looks great for his age!

Just wait until he reaches over two hundred and his fur is glossy and sleek …

Han and Chewie are big-time heroes

Just as Darth Vader swoops in to stop Luke Skywalker from destroying the Death Star, Han and Chewie bring the Millennium Falcon into the battle. With a triumphant whoop, Han and Chewie clear the way for Luke to fire the fateful shot that ends the threat of the Death Star. At least for another two films.

Han will famously get a medal for this. Chewie on the other hand…

Han entrusts Chewie with the Princess’ safety

Captured by the Empire, Han is about to be encased in carbonite and handed over to the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Enraged, Chewie tries to fight back and free him. Fearing for his friend’s life, Han tells Chewie to stop fighting and make sure he looks after Princess Leia Organa for him. Han’s words stop Chewie’s in his tracks, and he mournfully watches as his best friend is frozen in carbonite.

C-3PO, slung over Chewie’s back at the time, is immensely relieved.

Bro hugs in Jabba’s Palace

With Han encased in carbonite, Luke comes up with a daring (if overly complicated) plot to free him from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt. First, Chewie is “captured” and delivered to the crime lord by Leia disguised as a bounty hunter. Leia then manages to thaw Han out, but they are caught and Han is thrown into Jabba’s dungeons where he is reunited with Chewie. Relieved to see his best friend, Chewie gives him a hug and makes sure Han is okay.

At least we think that’s the reason. Han might owe Chewie money.

Han and Chewie finally come home

After years of searching for the Millennium Falcon, Han and Chewie finally find their ship in the hands of Rey and Finn. As they board their ship, Han tells Chewie that they are home. It might be Han’s ship, but it clear that it is also Chewie’s home as much as it is his. No matter what, Chewie is Han’s family.
