Ever since Nick Fury appeared after the credits of Iron Man, telling Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative, post-credits and mid-credits scenes have become a tradition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer-director James Gunn has confirmed that the upcoming film will have no less than FIVE stingers during or after the credits.
Well, five, actually. 😊

What are the credits scenes in Guardians 2?
Previous Marvel movies have had just one or two credits scenes, so Guardians 2 will set the new record by a long shot. What are they exactly? Members of the media who’ve seen press screenings are reporting that at least two of the scenes have larger implications for the MCU — potentially teeing up future on-screen events. The others, it would seem, are character moments played for laughs.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, arriving this summer, is the next MCU installment, but that doesn’t feel like a fit for a Guardians 2 credits scene. We’re more likely to get a look at Thor: Ragnarok, due out later this year. And while the film isn’t set for release until 2019, wouldn’t it be amazing one of the post-credits scenes were to tease Captain Marvel? Once we know more, rest assured we’ll break them down for you.
In the past, Marvel movie fans were initially thrilled by each new credits scene, but some grew tired of the concept by the time Marvel’s Phase Two drew to a close. And the scenes themselves lost luster creatively. Ant-Man‘s coda was simply a cut-down scene from Captain America: Civil War. But that’s changed with the rejuvenation of the concept in Phase Three. Civil War gave us credits moments foreshadowing Black Panther and Spider-Man: Homecoming. And the trippy Doctor Strange featured Thor and Loki popping up in New York City.
Is five Guardians 2 credits scenes too many? No way.
Certainly, if there’s any Marvel movie that can sustain five credits scenes it’s a high-energy romp like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The film’s soundtrack, sure to be as memorable as the original “Awesome Mix,” will keep fans rocking ’til the end. And with a cast full of lovable and hilarious characters, a handful of credits scenes means more special moments with them.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in theaters May 5, continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.
