In 1977, Raggedy-Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure became the first toy adapted into a movie. This started a trend that has grown bigger ever since. Over the decades, toy lines have come to life in a variety of TV shows and movies. Now with the new animated movie Trolls out now in cinemas, we thought we’d list four more toy lines that were adapted into movies.

Lego

Everything is awesome, everything is cool when you’re part of a team! The Lego Movie  follows Emmet, a Lego character going about his normal business when he gets trapped in a scheme to save the world from the evil leader, President Business. Emmet is voiced by Chris Pratt, who does a brilliant job of playing the little dude. The film was nominated for an Oscar for the extremely catchy song “Everything is Awesome“. The Lego Movie is an enjoyable film for the whole family, and is a truly epic adventure!

Transformers

Transformers are probably one of the best-known toy to movie adaptations ever. From Michael Bay’s 2007 Transformers all the way up to Transformers: The Last Knight set for release in 2017. The Hasbro toys became a worldwide sensation when Michael Bay blew up the box office with his action-packed franchise that focused less on the storyline and more about “Oh wow, robots!” The toys were a hit in the ’80s along with the cartoon series The Transformers. While the animated shows came and went over the decades, Michael Bay’s film saw a resurgence in the property and is now a worldwide phenomenon. Autobots, Transform!

Barbie

Barbie has the most toy to movie adaptations, however, most of these are direct-to-video and few make it into cinema. Despite that, the long list of films enjoy a huge popularity amongst younger fans. The films started in 1987 with the TV special Barbie and the Rockers: Out of this World, and have continued all the way to the latest one which came out earlier this year titled Barbie: Star Light Adventure

Barbie has been a popular toy since she first hit the shelves in 1959. The versatility of the doll has lent herself to being the star of a variety of films ranging from adaptations of fairytales to completely new and interesting stories. In her latest adventure, Barbie saves the stars on a hoverboard. Barbie was a firm favourite of mine as a little girl and brings back fond memories of when life was about how many Barbie clothes you had, rather than a much more chaotic life now.

Care Bears

The Care Bears are a classic example of a toy to movie adaptation. The original The Care Bears Movie was released in 1985 and is a heart-warming film is about an evil shadow spirit who wrecks the Care Bears’ world and how the bears band together to battle against this evil force. The movie stars the cuddly characters Tenderheart, Grumpy, and all your favourite bears together in a truly beautiful movie that is still just as relatable as it was when it first came out.
