Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2 are two (that’s a lot of twos) films fans of giant monsters can’t wait to see. Production company Legendary owns the rights to both properties and have been scarce with details about the sequels. Today gives us our first bit of insight into where these films are going. We now know the new titles for these sequels.

Pacific Rim 2 was originally titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. It turns out that the studio has shifted gears on that front. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will now be known as Pacific Rim: Uprising. What kind of uprising is going on in the film? We have to imagine it’s pretty big since the last film led us to believe that the portal to the kaiju’s dimension was sealed. Who is getting uprised? We’ll find out when the movie releases on February 23, 2018.

The Big G is getting a sequel subtitle worthy of his name. Godzilla 2 is now being called Godzilla: King of the Monsters. That moniker was used at the end of the last film so it’s appropriate to see it take hold. It also lets us know that the new film will solidify Godzilla’s place as the “King of the Monsters,” so who exactly will he be facing? Fans are hoping for appearances from series stalwarts like King Ghidorah and Mothra (who was teased in the first film). Personally, I’d love to see Gigan make his transition to the American films. He’s one of the weirdest creature designs in the franchise’s history and it’d be great to see how they’d adapt him for a modern audience.

Hopefully, we’ll be hearing more before long. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will stomp into theaters on March 22, 2019. That’s such a long time to wait. Tide yourself over by watching this scene of Godzilla celebrating his defeat of King Ghidorah. This dance is better than most movies.
