The Gifted is a Fox TV series about the X-Men…sort of. In this world, the X-Men have disappeared after a mysterious event known only as 7/15. Mutants killed thousands of people, which caused the government to enact anti-mutant laws in retaliation.

Mutants live in fear of their lives. Some join a group known as the Mutant Underground for protection. This group is run by Thunderbird, played by Blair Redford, and Polaris, played by Emma Dumont.

Polaris is in a relationship with fellow mutant Eclipse played by Sean Teale. She is pregnant with his child. The pregnancy increases Polaris’ already significant powers and makes her even more dangerous.

When siblings Lauren, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, and Andy Strucker, played by Percy Hynes White, discover they are mutants, they are forced to go on the run. This includes their parents Caitlin, a nurse played by Amy Acker, and Reed, played by Stephen Moyer, who works as an attorney prosecuting mutants. Reed soon abandons his job for the safety of his children. The entire family then joins the Mutant Underground.

THE GIFTED: Natalie Alyn Lind in the "eMergence" season two premiere episode of THE GIFTED.

The Mutant Underground is constantly on the run from the Sentinel Services, an organization aimed at capturing and imprisoning mutants. Agent Jace Turner, played by Coby Bell, is especially relentless. His daughter died during the 7/15 event and he will stop at nothing to hold all mutants responsible. However, he begins to question the Sentinel Services when he discovers they are working with Trask Industries to turn mutants into Hounds- mutants brainwashed into hunting their own.

Some of the mutants, like Polaris and the devious Frost Sisters played by Skyler Samuels, want to take more direct action against the Sentinel Services for everything they have done to mutants. The Mutant Underground splits, with Polaris, the Frost Sisters, Andy Strucker, and a few others leaving to join the Inner Circle. Andy believes it is his birthright, having discovered that he and his sister are related to the mutant terrorist twins known as Fenris who belonged to the original Inner Circle.

THE GIFTED: Jamie Chung in the "eMergence" Season Two premiere episode of THE GIFTED.

Entering Season 2 the mutants are fractured. Eclipse and Polaris are separated and dealing with the ramifications of being apart as her due date approaches. The Strucker family is also coping with Andy’s betrayal and their desire to reunite as a family. And everyone is in danger with new mutant Reeva Pagye, played by Grace Byers, in the picture.
