Ghost in the Shell is one of the most influential anime films of all time. If it wasn’t for Ghost in the Shell, we never would have gotten The Matrix. A live-action adaptation has been a long time coming but it’s finally making its way to audiences next year. The first full trailer will hit Sunday. Until then, we have a sneak peek at the trailer that showcases one of the most iconic elements of the franchise.

Check it out!

One of the most memorable parts of Ghost in the Shell is the invisibility suit that lead character Major Motoko Kusanagi wears in the field. In the anime and manga, the suit makes her appear nude when it isn’t activated. Of course, that’s probably not going to fly with the MPAA, so the suit we see here is a little less revealing. Regardless, the action looks killer and the sci-fi aesthetic is on point.

A few short clips were released earlier this year, and we covered exactly what they all might mean. Thankfully, the strangeness of the source material doesn’t look to be sacrificed for this big budget iteration. Ghost in the Shell has a purposeful oddness that helps make it special. Discarding that to better appeal to a wider audience would do the source material a disservice.

Admittedly, Ghost in the Shell feels very mysterious at this point. Will it satisfy fans of the franchise? Will it attempt to sell itself to a wider audience based on the star power of lead actress Scarlett Johansson? Will the off-putting sci-fi world turn off viewers or entice them? We’ll learn a little more when the full trailer hits this Sunday. Keep your eye on Fandom for our coverage on that.

Ghost in the Shell will open nationwide on March 31. The curiosity surrounding this one makes it a must-see movie.
