“Get Off the Sidelines”: Watch and Support the No More PSA

Sharon Kehoe

Everyday at Fandom, we show our support for many things we love: superheroes, video games, wizards, monsters, and binging the latest hit TV show. But the world is much bigger than our favorite fandoms, and even fictional characters we adore have dealt with some scary situations.

That’s why we’re taking the time to help raise awareness to a good cause: No More. Launched in March 2013 by leading advocacy groups, service providers, the U.S. Department of Justice, and others, No More is a public campaign created to engage people around ending domestic violence and sexual assault. From NoMore.org:

NO MORE was conceived to amplify the power of the domestic violence and sexual assault movement using a unifying symbol to drive awareness and break down the barriers of stigma, silence and shame that keep people from talking about these issues and taking action to prevent them.

Since Sunday, March 6, NoMore.org launched #NoMoreWeek as a week of action on social media, starting with a Law & Order: SVU marathon highlighting the first hashtag of the campaign: #NoMoreExcuses. Here’s what the whole had to offer, and what you can still do to participate:

Sunday, March 6: #NoMoreExcuses for domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Joyful Heart Foundation and No More hosted a Law & Order: SVU marathon on USA Network, asking everyone to join the conversation and help spread the word on Twitter using #NoMoreExcuses.

Monday, March 7: A movement of #MenToo.
Men are also victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. No More and Mary Kay are helping redefine the phrase #ManUp to raise awareness of the role of men in this issue.

Tuesday, March 8: #KnowMore about how domestic violence and sexual assault impacts all survivors.
No More encouraged you to tell your story or read/share one from their blog to help the community #KnowMore about the different barriers survivors must face.

Wednesday, March 9: Start #OneMore conversation to help prevent violence before it starts.
No More asked you to take the pledge and share your commitment by asking #OneMore person to join you.

Thursday, March 10: Go blue to #ShowNoMore.
Everyone was encouraged to wear the No More symbol, add it to their social profile pictures, and ask friends to join the cause.

Friday, March 11: #NoMore bystanding.
Watch and share the “Get Off the Sidelines” PSA to encourage others to take action.

Saturday, March 12: #TogetherWeCan end domestic violence and sexual assault.
All are invited to tune into the 5-hour Discovery ID #InspireADifference Marathon and join the conversation on Twitter to discuss ways to create change in the community.

Make your voice heard and support family, friends, and community members who have suffered from domestic violence or sexual assault. Follow the footsteps of others who have spoken out and use #NoMore on social media to help unify the cause and create a safe environment for discussion.
