Game of Thrones Season 7 is coming and so is the Night King. HBO has just released their official promo art for the upcoming season and it’s literally all about the Night King. His face appears, cast in shadow, only a small portion of his horned head and an icy blue eye illuminated.

The iconic villain’s presence in Game of Thrones Season 7 promo art could mean something.

The looming threat of the Night King and his army of White Walkers is sure to become very real for many in Westeros this season, but we haven’t been expecting them to take center stage quite yet.

The inevitable confrontation between Jon SnowDaenerys, and Cersei seems to be the driving dramatic force of Game of Thrones Season 7. And in spite of this new poster, we still don’t think all out war with the White Walkers will happen until the eighth and final season.

Could we learn more about the Night King this season?

Last season, we learned all about the frosty villain’s origin when we saw Leaf turn a First Man into the Night King. We also saw him touch Bran Stark in a vision and mark him, causing the slaughter of most of the Children of the Forest, the Three-Eyed Raven, and Hodor.

The seventh season of Game of Thrones, consisting of eight episodes, will debut on Sunday, July 16 on HBO.
