The new trailer for Sony’s upcoming remake of Flatliners reveals the biggest role yet in Nina Dobrev’s big-screen career after Vampire Diaries ended.

Flatliners stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons as medical students who become obsessed with a mysterious experiment. The five seek to uncover the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, triggering a near-death experience. But wouldn’t you know it? Things don’t go as planned as they’re each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing into the afterlife.

Honestly, though, it’s Nina and her post-Elena role that we’re most excited about. You can see her and the rest of the Flatliners cast on the big screen when the movie hits theaters on September 29.
