As the third season of CW’s The Flash draws closer, we’ve been treated to another short trailer. The end of season two saw Barry Allen run back in time and save his mother from her murder by Eobard Thawne. This action resulted in the Flashpoint, an alternate timeline where events unfolded very differently.

The Time Strikes Back trailer opens with Barry asking where he is. John Shipp tells him that they are in Central City. Barry tells him that he knows that but asks when they are.

Despite only being a few seconds long, this moment opens up several possibilities. Barry has previously been inside the Speed Force where it manifests as people he knows. With Shipp playing both Henry Allen – Barry’s father – and Earth-3 speedster Jay Garrick, Barry could be inside the Speed Force again, another world or lost in time. With talk of time travel, I think that we can safely rule out Henry Allen.

The trailer then moves to Barry – in his Flash uniform – explaining the ramifications of his time trip to Star Labs. By travelling back in time an entire new reality has been created.

We catch some glimpses of a dark hooded figure in the midst of a gathering. It could be that the League of Assassins is back for Flashpoint. With Savitar rocking a new look for the CW, it could also be a gathering of his followers.

Some recycled footage of a Time Wraith chasing Barry around the pipeline is also included. In the episode Flash Back, Barry travelled back in time to talk with Eobard Thawne. Thawne revealed that he hid from Time Wraiths by not altering the timeline. With the entire world changed, could Time Wraiths be hot on Barry’s trail?

Cisco makes a brief appearance and is apparently told about his self from Barry’s timeline. Ramon refers to his non-rich self as “a glitch in the universe”. If time does return to normal, Ramon-Prime might have something to say about that.
